Hyderabad: A 24-year-old man was allegedly murdered by his relative and his friend over suspicion of practicing witchcraft in Mulugu district.

The victim has been identified as M Anil. Police said he was allegedly murdered by his relative P Badri and his friend M Mangaiah.

The duo suspected that Anil had visited Badri’s home to perform black magic against his family.

According to Mulugu district police, Anil hailed from Chhattisgarh state. He had come to meet his relative Badri at Gottikoyagumpu hamlet in Jalagalavancha village of Tadwai Mandal.

On Sunday, the duo got Anil drunk and killed him with sharp weapons. They later buried the body in the forests. On Monday, when the duo was questioned, the murder plot was unraveled.

It is learnt that Badri was told by some soothsayer to remain cautious as someone was trying to harm his family using black magic. When Anil visited his home, Badri became suspicious.

Badri and Mangaaiah first attacked Anil with an axe and then slit his throat with a knife. Police detained the duo and started the process of identifying the location, where Anil’s body was buried.

They are also verifying if any other person was also involved in the murder. Further investigation is underway, the police officials said.
