Man lands in jail over rape of minor in Vizag

Visakhapatnam: The Vizag police on Tuesday arrested a 30-year-old man who raped a 14-year-old girl. The girl who became pregnant following the incident is a class 10 student. However, in the 16th week, the minor’s pregnancy was terminated by a team of doctors at KG Hospital illegally.

The accused has been identified as Bypilli Ravi Kumar, a resident of Gopalapatnam area in Vizag city. The police also arrested four others in connection with the case for supporting the accused.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Zone, B Uday Bhaskar said that the victim along with her mother had been residing at Gopalapatnam in Vizag for the past few years. The girl’s neighbour Ravi befriended her and later raped the girl at his home several times.

Earlier this month, the girl experienced stomach pain and was rushed to a private hospital where it was found that she was four months pregnant. Ravi along with his family members threatened the girl and her mother to undergo abortion. The girl underwent abortion at KG Hospital in Vizag on August 7, 2019 and was discharged on August 15.

Later, Ravi and his family members took the girl to Anakapalle to hush up the entire episode. However, the victim girl’s grandmother B Sarojini, who came to know about the incident, approached the Gopalapatnam police.

“We have investigated the case in various aspects and nabbed the accused Ravi and four others, who helped him in the crime. We will look into other angles to nab few others in the case,” the DCP said.
