Man murders wife, daughter Visakhapatnam; committed suicide in Odisha

Visakhapatnam: A man committed suicide by jumping in front of a running train on Saturday in Odisha. It is alleged that he murdered his wife and four-year-old daughter at Madhurawada in Vizag city.

The victim, 35-year-old Sakrajit Bhanjeo alias Sujith, is a native of Rourkela, Odisha. He works with the Food Corporation of India (FCI). For the past four years, he was living with his wife and daughter in Visakhapatnam city.

On Saturday evening, Sujith made a call to his mother and informed that he had killed his wife and daughter and is going to commit suicide. Sujith’s mother immediately alerted the Odisha police and her relatives in Visakhapatnam. The Odisha police called up PM Palem police in Visakhapatnam city.

PM Palem police along with Sujith’s relatives reached the flat where the victim was staying and broke open the door. They found the bodies of the wife in a pool of blood in the bedroom and the daughter in the bathroom.

PM Palem inspector, A. Ravi Kumar said, “Sujith murdered his wife by beating her and then slit her throat. He smothered his daughter to death. We suspect that the crime was committed on Thursday as the bodies were partially decomposed.” Our investigation reveals that disputes between Sujith and his wife led to the murders and suicide, he said.

Sujith’s neighbours told the media that Sujith suspected his wife of infidelity and would pick fights with her regularly.

The watchman of the apartment said that he saw Sujith last on Thursday morning. Police suspect that after killing his wife and daughter, Sujith left for Rourkela and committed suicide after informing his mother. Odisha police found Sujith’s body near the railway track at Rourkela in Odisha on Saturday night.

Assistant commissioner of police, north zone Ravi Shankar Reddy said, “We are examining the CCTV footage of the apartment and call data of the accused to ascertain the reason behind the crime. The bodies have been shifted to KG Hospital in Vizag city for autopsy. A case has been registered.”
