Hyderabad: The Hyderabad police are on the lookout for a man who allegedly raped his mother-in-law after getting drunk. The accused allegedly assaulted the 48-year-old survivor when she was sleeping.

The Punjagutta police said the survivor, her daughter, son-in-law and their 2-year-old child moved to the city three years ago. The survivor stays with the child at home, while the accused and his wife work for private firms.

The police said the mother-in-law lives with depression and takes anti-depressants daily. On Thursday, she took her medicine and went off to sleep. At that time, her daughter was at work on a night shift.

The accused, who was at home, got drunk and allegedly forced himself on his mother-in-law. He gagged her mouth when she tried to raise an alarm. The accused was exposed the next day when his wife found her mother crying and asked her what was wrong with her.

The survivor also informed her nephew about the assault. Her nephew and daughter then confronted the accused who admitted to the crime. "I have misbehaved and physically assaulted your mother. I also requested her to forgive me," the accused told his wife.

The accused left the house abruptly, threatening to divorce his wife and pay her monthly maintenance as per law. The police have launched a hunt to nab the accused.
