Man poses as Genpact HR, offers fake jobs; booked

Hyderabad: Rachakonda police has arrested a 26-year-old man for posing as Human Resources (HR) employee at Genpact, a professional services firm, and taking money by offering fake offer letters. The youngster Bukya Manikanta, who is a resident of Thorrur in Mahabubabad, had taken up the alias of ‘Goutham’ and posted job advertisements at Genpact in the Quikr.com.

Targetting female applicants in particular, Manikanta had specified that once selected (without an interview), candidates will be provided with a job in Uppal. The ‘HR’ would later forward a fake job offer letter as well as a fake identity card, in order to convince the applicants. Once selected, the applicants are asked to give Rs 5,000 has processing charges towards the company, Manikanta claimed.

It was only after Manikanta began to ignore the calls of the applicants, that they realised that their job offers were fake. Taking cue from this, the applicants registered a complaint at Uppal police station.

According to the police, the 26-year-old has duped at least 100 applicants in a similar manner. Police also seized Rs.35,500 in cash, mobile phones, fake job offer letters, SIM cards and other documents from his possession. “Special Operation Team Malkajgiri Zone was given the task and accordingly the fraudster Manikanta alias Goutham was apprehended for posing as HR Manager Genpact and for collecting the money from the students promising them to provide jobs in Genpact and for issuing fake job offer letters,” the police said. Case has been booked against Manikanta under sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 468 (forgery) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
