Hyderabad: Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel deputed at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport arrested a person smuggling foreign currency into the airport. 3,50,375 UAE Dirham (AED), equivalent to Rs 67.65 lakh, was recovered from the passenger’s hand baggage. He was handed over to Customs officials for further inquiry.

On Sunday night, during the pre-embarkation security check, CISF personnel noticed suspicious material in the hand baggage of a passenger, and they found the currency after a physical search. The passenger was later identified as Mohd Ali Khan, who was travelling to Dubai from Hyderabad.

However, on enquiry, the said passenger could not produce any valid document, and the currency, along with the passenger, was handed over to Customs officials for further legal action.

This is the second incident of foreign currency being caught at the airport. On September 15, CISF personnel intercepted a passenger identified as Habeeb Ali Alkaf carrying 45,000 Saudi Riyal (approximately Rs 8.58 lakh).
