Miscreants apply feces on worship idol, East Godavari police launch a hunt

East Godavari: Unidentified miscreants allegedly applied feces on a Ganesh idol placed in a compound wall of a house, located in Venkatagiri of Rajahmundry rural mandal in East Godavari, AP. The issue came to light on Saturday morning.

On being informed, the East Godavari police have identified few and detained them for questioning.

A senior police officer ATV Ravi Kumar said, " The men applied feces and cow dung on a Ganesh idol which was sculpted on the compound wall of a house. The act which was captured on a CCTV camera occurred between 1 am and 4 am on 12th September. Based on a complaint filed by the owner, the police constituted clues team accompanied with forensic experts and a dog squad to identify miscreants.

The police examined the CCTV footage of the locality and have taken six persons into their custody for interrogation. The cops warned strict against the miscreants and also against those who spread rumours. A case under Sections 295 and 295 (A) of IPC has been booked and investigation is on.

The locals have cleaned the idol and performed puja on the same day.

It may be recalled that Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has handed over the investigation of the blaze of Antarvedi chariot incident to CBI in tune with the policy of transparency in governance.

The fire mishap at Antavedi Sri Lakshinarasimha Swamy temple, in East Godavari district, where the temple chariot has caught fire. The incident has triggered protests from several organizations demanding action against those involved in the incident
