Missing electrician’s body recovered from Saroornagar lake after 24 hrs

Hyderabad: The body of a man who was swept away into a lake during the heavy downpour on Sunday evening was recovered from the Saroor Nagar lake on 21 September. Saroornagar

On Sunday, Naveen Kumar, an electrician and resident of Meerpet, was driving towards Tapovan Colony when he fell into the waters and was swept away by the strong currents. Passersby tried to help him but in vain. The police and the GHMC launched a rescue operation but it was called off late in the night due to the continuous heavy downpour.

The next morning, the National Disaster Response Force joined the search operation. Naveen’s body was found in the Saroor Nagar lake on Monday evening.



On Monday morning, the National Disaster Response Force teams joined the search operation. Around evening, Naveen’s body was found in the Saroornagar lake. The hopes of his family members to see him alive were shattered after his body was recovered around 24 hours after he was missing.

Naveen Kumar, a resident of Meerpet, was returning home from work when the incident occurred. While trying to ride through the overflowing water, he fell in the water and was washed away.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Saroornagar police station and the body was shifted to Osmania mortuary for post-mortem.



This is the second such incident in Hyderabad city. Three days ago, 12-year-old Sumedha had fallen into an open nala and was washed away at Neredmet. The girl was initially assumed missing but during the search operation, the police found the girl’s bicycle near a nala. A search followed the next day and her body was found in a tank two km away from the place where her bicycle was spotted. The parents lodged a complaint against the civic body alleging negligence. The state human rights commission has reacted strongly to the incident and called for a detailed report from the GHMC commissioner.
