Nagayalanka police performs last rites of Covid-19 victim in Krishna district

Nagayalanka (Krishna dist.): The Nagayalanka police, led by SI C. Krishna, came forward to perform the last rites of a Covid-19 victim at a time when there have been instances of mishandling bodies.

A 42-year-old man died in his home at Nagayalanka in Krishna district on Thursday and it was found that he was Covid-19 positive, after his death. Since there was no one, including his relatives, who came forward to shift the body to the cremation ground and perform the last rites, the SI and his team wore PPE kits and shifted the body to the cremation ground and performed the final rites.

The incident came to light after the Director-General of Police, Andhra Pradesh, Gautam Sawang posted the photos and appreciated the humane gesture of C. Krishna and his team. Sawang said that ‘humanity still exists’.

This was the first Covid-19 death at Nagayalanka mandal in Krishna district, though the district has reported 124 Covid-19 deaths and 4,482 Covid-19 cases till now.

It may be recalled that a doctor, Pendyala Sriram at Pedapalli in Telangana, came forward to drive a tractor carrying the body of a Covid-19 victim to the cremation ground for last rites when there was no ambulance available in the hospital and the driver of the tractor provided by the municipal authorities refused to drive.

The netizens appreciated the police for proving that humanity still exists during the pandemic.
