Boat tragedy: Naval Dornier sent to Rajahmundry to assist search operations

Hyderabad: A Naval Dornier was dispatched to Rajahmundry with a diving team to assist search operations to locate missing passengers in Boat tragedy in Godavari river on Sunday.

Based on a request from state administration Naval Dornier along with a naval diving team, an inflatable Gemini boat and associated equipment were deployed from Naval Air Station, INS Dega to Rajahmundry on Sunday evening.

The naval diving team will join the search operations of missing passengers from the capsized tourist boat in Godavari River near Devipatnam. Two naval helicopters will also be deployed from INS Dega with first light on Monday morning to join the search operation along with NDRF, SDRF and civil authorities.

A team of a specialized deep divers team with 'Side Scan Sonar' equipment from Uttarakhand state to reach Vijayawada by Monday for retrieving leftover dead bodies from the river. A group of Deep Divers Team from Indian Navy reached the spot, and 1 ONGC Chopper is pressed into service for search operations.

Out of 60 passengers, 27 passengers have been rescued, and about 25 are still missing as per Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA) in the boat tragedy incident took place in Godavari river on Sunday.
