Speaking to Newsmeter, Neredmet Inspector A Narsimha Swamy said "Following a complaint filed by the parents, teams were deployed to check the colony drains. The girl was last seen riding a by-cycle at around 6.45 PM on Thursday evening before the rains and since then she could not be traced. Hours into the search operation, her body was traced 2 kms away from the home at Banda Cheruvu. The body has been shifted to Osmania General Hospital Mortuary".

Deendayal Colony President Mr Anand Rao said, " Police found that the girl's body traveled 1 km due to the force of the drain water, while her cycle was recovered. Drain water from the colony, Vayupuri , old police station limits travels via Santhosh nagar and meets at Banda cheruvu. However on a rain day the flow is excess, Sumedha could have fell into the drain".
