Newborn found dumped in bushes in Vizianagaram

Vizianagaram: A newborn baby boy was found abandoned in the bushes near a local tank at the Rellivalasa village under the Pusapatirega police station limits in the Vizianagaram district on 5 August.

Two villagers heard the baby’s cries and found him abandoned in the bushes. They took the baby boy home, bathe him, and a woman in the village fed the hungry infant. K. Appa Rao, a member of the Child Rights Protection Commission of Vizianagaram district, then informed the police and other authorities.

The Pusapatirega police led by sub-inspector V. Balaji rushed to the village and took the baby from a woman who wanted to adopt him. The baby was sent to a local government hospital after bruises were discovered on his back. Later, the district child protection officer shifted the newborn to the government hospital in Vizianagaram Town for better treatment. He will be kept under observation there for 10 days.

The police said the baby may have been born out of wedlock or may have been the outcome of an illicit relationship. They have registered a case under Section 317 of the IPC and formed a special team to trace the mother. The police said some people from the village wanted to adopt the newborn. The boy will be shifted to Sishu Gruha once he is discharged from the hospital, they added.
