NIMS professor suffers a heart-attack in UK, put on ventilator

Hyderabad: Doctor A.K Meena, Professor of Neurology at the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hyderabad suffered a cardiac arrest in the UK while attending a conference.

The doctors at St Bartholomew’s Hospital – W Smithfield in London have categorised her condition as ‘serious’. The professor has been put on a ventilator.

In a letter addressed to the Special Chief Secretary – (health, medical & family welfare department -government of Telangana), the NIMS authorities have requested the state to provide financial help in case the hospital bill exceeds her travel insurance.

The letter said, Dr A. K Meena, while attending a conference in the UK developed a cardiac arrest and was resuscitated in the venue. Doctors say her condition is deteriorating, the hospital administrators in the UK have communicated on her serious condition. NIMS is coordinating with Dr Vishnu -Neurologist from AIMS who is part of the same conference’.

The NIMS management has decided to send Dr B. Srinivas – clinical haematologist to London on the institution's expenses. However, have requested the government to fund the treatment if the cost exceeds the travel insurance.
