NIRF rankings 2020: NALSAR, UoH among top 10 educational institutions

Hyderabad: Two educational institutions of Hyderabad have made it to the coveted list of top 10 universities of the country.

NALSAR University of Law in Hyderabad has been ranked third best University in National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), while University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been ranked sixth best University in the University categories.

NIRF 'India 2020' was released by Union Minister of Human Resource Development (MHRD) Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank on Thursday.

IIT Madras retains the first Position in the overall ranking as well as in the engineering category. Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru tops the University list. IIM Ahmedabad tops in Management Category and AIIMS occupy the top slot in the Medical category for the third consecutive year.

Miranda College retains the first position amongst colleges for the third consecutive year. Maulana Azad Institute of Dental Sciences, Delhi, secures the first position in the 'Dental' category. Dental institutions were included for the first time in India Rankings 2020.

NIT Warangal ranked 19th in the engineering category. NIT Warangal improved its position from 26 in 2019 to 19 in 2020. The institute improved its score in all five parameters used for ranking. NIT Warangal's overall rank also improved from 61 in 2019 to 46 in 2020. Director Prof. N V Ramana Rao congratulated all the stakeholders who contributed to this improvement.

MHRD minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank released 'India Rankings 2020' of Institutions of Higher Education in various categories based on their performance on five broad categories and parameters. The Minister released India Rankings 2020 virtually in 10 categories.

This is the fifth consecutive edition of the rankings. In 2020, 'Dental' has been introduced bringing the total tally to 10 categories/subject domains.

HRD Minister said that these rankings help universities to improve their performance on various parameters and identify gaps in research and areas of improvement. He said ranking of Institutions at the national level instill a competitive spirit amongst institutions to perform better and secure higher rank at the international level.



The parameters broadly cover Teaching, Learning, Resources, Research, Professional Practices, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach, Inclusivity, and Perception. Placements, research publications, and outreach programmes. MHRD ranks the universities and institutions based on the predetermined parameters every year.

A total number of 3771 unique institutions offered themselves for ranking under 'Overall', category-specific and/or domain-specific rankings for India Rankings 2020. In all, 5805 applications for the ranking were made by these 3771 unique applicant institutions under various categories/domains, which include 294 Universities, 1071 Engineering Institutions, 630 Management Institutions, 334 Pharmacy Institutions, 97 Law Institutions, 118 Medical Institutions, 48 Architecture Institutions, and 1659 General Degree Colleges.

The number of unique applicants to India Rankings has increased from 3127 in 2019 to 3771 in 2020 whereas the total number of applications for ranking in various categories has increased from 4873 in 2019 to 5805 in 2020.

University of Hyderabad (UoH) has once again been ranked among India’s best educational institutions for 2020, according to the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

More than 5000 institutes had applied for the rankings. According to the rankings released by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, the UoH is ranked 6th among all Universities in the country. More than 200 Universities were surveyed for the rankings.

“We are happy to have been ranked among the top universities in the country. We have to work hard. We have identified a few gaps to move up in the ranking system. UoH will increase its efforts to ensure that it is recognized as a top institution not only in India but also internationally for its quality of teaching, outreach, inclusivity, and research," said Prof Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor of UoH.
