Hyderabad: A man from Odisha’s Koraput district jumped quarantine to attend his sister’s last rites in West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday.

Hailing from Jeypore town in Odisha’s Koraput district, the man, a local businessman, had recently gone home from Vizag. He was put under home quarantine as part of the protocol.

However, he was found missing from his home when the local health staff visited him after his test came back positive on Monday. His family members said he had left for West Godavari district to attend his sister’s last rites.

Koraput district collector said that the health team had visited his home for two consecutive days. “They were told that he has gone to West Godavari district of Andhra Pradesh to attend his sister's last rites,” he said.

Odisha police have altered their counterparts in West Godavari district.

The incident has however raised questions as to how he crossed the state border without being detected
