On mother's day, Vikarabad man kills mom for money

Hyderabad: A man brutally killed his mother in an inebriated condition in Vikarabad district on Saturday night, on the eve of Mother’s Day.

The accused, Ashok, demanded his mother, Anjilamma, to give him the money that she had received from the state government as corona relief at Dudyala village in Bomraspet mandal. Lifting the ban on liquor sale in the state led to violent incidents in Telangana. On the first day of easing restrictions on the sale of liquor, a series of violent incidents were witnessed in Hyderabad and in several parts of the state. Further, there were also accidents that occurred due to motorists driving vehicles under the influence of alcohol since sale of liquor has restarted during lockdown.

Ashok, a construction worker, is the only son to his parents, Anjilamma and Eswaraiah. Eswaraiah passed away a few years ago due to ill health while Anjilamma was making a living from a small piece of land the family had taken on lease. Meanwhile, Ashok, who has two wives and three children, worked as a construction labourer and was also addicted to alcohol.

As most of his earnings were spent on alcohol, his wives supported the family by working for daily wages. Since the sale of liquor began on Wednesday, he had been consuming alcohol and spent all the money.

On Saturday night, he came to his mother and asked her for money to buy alcohol. When she said that she had no money, he demanded that she give him the corona relief money. When she refused to do so, he killed her. Police are investigating.
