Petition seeking cancellation of Akbaruddin Owaisi’s bail for hate speech case

Hyderabad: A petition has been filed in Adilabad Additional District Court, seeking cancellation of the bail granted to AIMIM leader and MLA Syed Akbaruddin Owaisi in the crime registered against him in 2013 for delivering hate speech in Nirmal town on December 22, 2012.

BJP member and advocate K Karuna Sagar filed the petition on Wednesday stating that the speech delivered by Akbaruddin on that night in Govt Junior College Grounds was part of a criminal conspiracy to promote enmity between religions and create disturbance in society. Karuna pointed out that the police had also filed a charge sheet in this case, which is pending in the lower court for service of summons since October 2018. He alleged that Akbaruddin is evading summons despite knowing about the pending case — a fact the MLA mentioned in his election affidavit. The petitioner said that this is bail jumping and sought its cancellation on the same grounds.

As is known, the controversial MLA, who is the brother of Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi, is mired in several cases filed against him for hate speech. A special court had recently sent him a notice asking his response on a plea seeking cancellation of bail granted to him in another hate speech case filed against him in 2013. The court directed him to file a counter affidavit in the petition.
