Plant for plastic: Here is how a Hyderabad-based nursery is trying to save the environment

Hyderabad: Alongside the many methods to dispose single-use plastic in Hyderabad, social activist and nursery owner Ram Dosapaty has started an exciting and beautiful initiative. The nursery owner will give you a free plant for every one kilogramme of plastic you bring him.

Ram had recently taken to Twitter to share a video message announcing and explaining his creative venture. “A very warm welcome to everyone. Are you staying in Hyderabad? If you have used plastic covers lying around your home, bring it here and take a plant of your choice from our nursery. If you can find one kg of plastic, then there are many plants to choose from our nursery. We aim to provide your home with beautiful plants, which gives you oxygen rather than having plastic which generates pollution. Get your used plastic from your homes and take our beautiful plants home. Help Hyderabad become plastic-free. Thank you!”

His nursery can be found besides Karur Vysya Bank ATM, LB Nagar-Uppal Road, Rock Town Residents Colony of Sai Nagar in LB Nagar, Hyderabad.

Ram Dosapaty’s initiative is also contributing to GHMC’s move of banning single-use plastic, which began from mid-October.

Telangana CM K Chandrasekhar Rao had announced the ban of single-use plastic in the state on October 11. Following which, GHMC started collecting fines from vendors selling single-use plastic in Cyberabad. The Corporation collected a few lakhs as fines from the twin-cities, besides seizing the stock in its first raid in the city.

GHMC collected a total amount of over Rs 20 lakh from Lingampally and Chandanagar circle. Officials collected around Rs 1,003,000 as fine from Serilingampally circle.
