Police constable booked for dowry harassment in Krishna district

Visakhapatnam: Police have registered a case against a constable after his wife lodged a complaint of dowry harassment and sought protection for her baby.

V Prameela on Friday complained that her husband V Rajesh, who is part of a security detail of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Nuzvid, B Srinivasulu in Krishna district, was harassing her for dowry.

Even though Prameela’s parents had given Rs 10 lakh cash, 120 grams of gold and 2.5 acres of farmland at the time of marriage, Rajesh and her sister have been allegedly demanding more dowry. Pamela also accused Rajesh of trying to kill her.

Prameela said that her husband has been harassing her physically and mentally for the past four years. She said Rajesh even thrashed her parents on Sunday.

“I have waited for four years that Rajesh may change his attitude, but he still wants more dowry. I along with my parents met DSP B Srinivasulu and lodged a case against Rajesh”, she said.

Police immediately swung into action and registered a case against Rajesh.

Prameela’s parents said that they have given a huge amount to Rajesh at the time of marriage. “But, Rajesh made our daughter’s life miserable. Now, our daughter is the mother of a baby boy and we have doubts about her safety. We have lodged a complaint against Rajesh,” they added.
