Police, Maoists exchange fire in Vizag

Visakhapatnam : An exchange of fire took place between Maoist and police near Mandapalli villager under GK Veedhi mandal in Vizag Agency area on Monday morning. The encounter took place when the Visakhapatnam District police based on a tip-off raided the hideout of the rebels in the forest along with the CRPF.

Police sources said that about 15 to 20 Maoist cadre from the East Division, including some senior leaders such as Aruna, Chalapathi, Suresh and Jagan, were present at the hideout.

A senior police officer said that there were no injuries and casualties on either side. The police recovered some Maoist literature, a couple of kits bags, as many as 10 tiffin carriers, wire bundles and two radios.
