Hyderabad: Self Hygiene and preventive measures are the only 'Sri Ram Raksha' to check CoronaVirus, said Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao. The state-head, on Thursday, briefed the media on the measures taken in wake of the outbreak of CoronaVirus in Telangana.

KCR observed that those countries which undertook stringent measures, like Vietnam, could successfully contain the virus despite being adjacent to China, while countries like Italy and Iran, which were comparatively liberal in imposing restrictions, remain the worst affected nations.

"Taking this experience into consideration, we have decided to adopt tough and preventive measures to contain the spread of the virus in Telangana," he said. However, he made it clear that shopping malls and supermarkets will not be closed to ensure adequate supplies and availability of essential commodities and to check black-marketing during the shutdown.

The CM also announced a special drive in all the districts from Friday to identify people who arrived in the state from foreign countries since 1 March. "The government has given clear cut directions to all collectors and SPs of all the districts to undertake this drive from tomorrow. The drive will be taken up from the village-level to district-level and involve local bodies, police, and revenue departments.

They will identify such people and put them under home quarantine. Tests will be conducted for them and if they display symptoms of the virus they will be referred to the government for further tests and treatment. This is because all the 14 positive cases that were detected in Telangana to date have come from people who arrived from foreign countries. There has been no case of local people being infected with Corona virus," KCR said.
