Private hospitals cannot declare dengue cases: Health Ministers gag order

Telangana: With more cases of dengue deaths getting confirmed in private hospitals in the state, Health Minister Eatala Rajender on Friday has issued a gag on private hospitals, saying they cannot announce dengue cases and deaths. Speaking at a review meeting on dengue, the minister said private hospitals are scaring people and creating panic.

Earlier the state health ministry had constituted an audit committee comprising of the district medical health officer (DMHO), district malaria officer, epidemiologist and other officials to audit the dengue deaths in Telangana.

The committee members will go through dengue case sheets of hospitals to know the tests that were conducted to confirm dengue, the treatment provided, co-morbid conditions expressed by the patients and other details.

This year, not case of death due to dengue has been registered in the official records of Telangana. While the state government is trying to under-play with figures, this year, around 2,113 cases of dengue fever are observed in the state.

In the last 25 days, around 530 cases of dengue have been reported in Telangana, of which 372 cases belong to Hyderabad.
