Queue to buy onions kills 65 year old man in Gudivada of Krishna district

Gudivada: A 65- year-old man suffered a heart attack while he was waiting in a long queue to buy subsidized onions at Rythu Bazaar at Gudivada in Krishna district and he died on the way to the hospital on Monday.

The victim was identified as Sambaiah alias Sambireddy, a resident of Gudivada in Krishna district. The locals said that Sambaiah came to Rythu Bazaar around at 8 am on Monday to buy one kg onion at Rs 25 (subsidized onions).

There was a long queue to buy the subsidized onions at the Rythu Bazaar, and the sale of the onions commenced at around 8.30 am.

Sambaiah waited in the queue for more than one hour to buy the onions, but he didn't get the chance. There was a stampede like situation in the queue line, and the old Sambaiah fell down due to the stampede.

People in the Rythu rushed him to the nearby hospital, but he was declared brought dead.

The relatives of Sambaiah said that the government failed to provide sufficient onions under subsidized and also failed to streamline the onion prices.

The onion prices have touched an all time high of Rs 170 per kg in the retail markets in Andhra Pradesh.

Most of people cut down the quantity of consumption of the onions.
