Rachakonda police arrests college teacher for sending lewd WhatsApp messages

Hyderabad: Rachakonda police has arrested a 26-year-old youth for allegedly harassing a woman by sending abusive messages to her relatives. The youth, who is identified as Kola Harish Kumar, was working as an Assistant Professor in an engineering college, and had begun harassing the lady after she rejected his proposal.

According to the police, Harish Kumar had got acquainted with the woman in the year 2017, while working in the engineering college in Ghatkesar. The complainant who was pursuing M.Tech in the college used to regularly receive calls from Harish. Later, when the M.Tech student rejected Harish’s proposal, he allegedly took revenge by sending abusive WhatsApp messages.

Police revealed that the cyberstalker would send sexually explicit messages to the woman, and also update his WhatsApp status with messages demeaning the woman. He allegedly threatened her that he would post her pictures on social media platforms and sent similar messages to her relatives as well.

Rachakonda police arrested Harish, who is a resident of Uppal on May 16, and seized his phone. After retrieving the data from his phone, he was produced before the High Court, the police said. The accused has been booked under Section 354 D (stalking), 509 (Insult to modesty of woman) of IPC and Section 66, 67 of IT act.

The police further asked netizens “especially girl students are advised to restrain themselves from sharing any intimate, personal pictures and videos to either friends or strangers on any social media platforms which can turn detrimental to them.”
