Rajini B’Day: DMK’s MK Stalin greets the actor, while no wishes from Modi

Chennai: Superstar Rajinikanth’s 69th birthday was trending on Twitter, as millions across the globe wished Thalaivar on social media. Moreover, his fans that are confident that the actor would soon float his party next year and face 2021 assembly elections organised mega celebrations across Tamil Nadu.

Greetings poured in from Kamal Haasan, Sachin to Aamir Khan on the day, of which the highlight was DMK president MK Stalin extending his wishes. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who regularly wished Rajinikanth in the previous years, remained silent. It has led to speculation as to what this could mean in political circles.

Political pundits say that all is not well between Rajinikanth and BJP. “After the actor’s recent statement that efforts are being made to saffronise him, BJP seems to have developed cold shoulders. Modi not greeting Rajini on his birthday is an indicator,” they said.

Sources close to Rajinikanth said, “The actor is clear about his political agenda. He has repeatedly made it clear that he is not a B team of BJP. He has his plans, and his spiritual politics would be different from that of BJP’s.”

There is a political void in Tamil Nadu, and Rajinikanth is expected to fill it, they add.

Notably, many regional parties, including DMK, greeted him on his birthday. Stalin had criticised the actor in the past. There are speculations that with Rajinikanth maintaining that he is not a BJP man, regional parties would come close to him as Assembly elections draw near. They know he has an influence over voters’ decision.

Don’t forget that both Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan did not rule out the possibility of working together in the future for the good of the people, observes a few.
