Ramachandra Guha, 3rd Indian who made it to American Historical Association (AHA)

Hyderabad: Noted historian Ramachandra Guha who was recently booked for sedition has been honoured with the prestigious ‘American Historical Association (AHA). He is the third Indian historian since 1884 to be featured as the honorary foreign member.

Taking to Twitter, Mr Guha tweeted, “ Deeply honoured to be on this list of AHA awardees . At times like this one most remembers those to whom one owes the most. Three people made me a scholar; my wife Sujata , my teacher (the late Anjan Ghosh, and my first ( and finest) Editor , Dr. Rukun Advani”.

The association announced its 2019 list of prize winners on October 8.

The Bengalugu-based – biographer will be facilitated at the 134th annual meeting in New York city between January 3rd – 6th , 2020.

Every year, the AHA chooses foreign scholars for their distinction work in the field of history including assistance to the work of American historians in the US.

Sedition case against Ramachandra Guha :

Bihar police booked 50 celebrities including Historian Ramachandra Guha, Mani Ratnam and Aparna Sen for raising concern over the growing incidents of mob lynching. The 50 celebs had addressed a letter to the Prime Minister in connection with the number of incidents of lynching against Indian Muslims, Dalits, minorities. The Muzzaffarpur police booked them under sedition, public nuisance, hurting religious feelings .

The move by the Bihar police received people’s wrath over social media. Many called it a murder of freedom of expression
