Rebel YSR Congress MP Raghurama Krishnam Raju alleges phone tapping

Vijayawada: Phone tapping issue has snowballed into a major controversy with rebel MP of YSR Congress Party Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju writing to Union home secretary Ajay Bhalla that his two cell phones were being snooped by the intelligence wing of Andhra Pradesh.

The Lok Sabha member from Narsapuram constituency has requested Bhalla to order a probe into the issue.

He also alleged that he was getting threatening calls from strange numbers displaying codes of Romania, Denmark, Switzerland, South Korea and Spain.

The rebel MP noted that tapping of telephones is a violation of Articles 14, 19 and 21 of the Indian Constitution. He said that he has observed disturbance while speaking on his phones for the past two months.

“Initially, I thought it could be due to some technical snag. But, now I have come to the conclusion that my phones are being tapped by intelligence officials,” said Krishnam Raju.

Kanumuri Raghurama Krishnam Raju had been critical of the YSR Congress Party. He even had a verbal spat with the party legislators from West Godavari district. Raju also criticized the YSR Congress Party government policies and chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

It may be recalled that YSR Congress Party leaders have approached Lok Sabha Speaker seeking his disqualification. However, Raju got Y category security cover from the Central Armed Police Force after petitioning the Union Home Minister.
