Rs 40 lakh cash seized at Shamirpet belongs to BJP leader Raghunandan Rao : Cyberabad Cops

Hyderabad: A day after Cyberabad police seized Rs 40 lakh cash at Shamirpet, Cops confirmed that the unaccounted money belongs to Raghunandan Rao, senior BJP leader, who is on cards to contest the by-election in Dubbaka of Telangana. Investigation revealed that the unaccounted cash was meant for 'distribution' during the by election.

Acting on specific intelligence, On 5 October night, Cyberabad cops intercepted a vehicle and Shamirpet and seized cash to the tune of Rs 40 lakhs. Four persons were caught transporting the cash.

According to cops, Creta vehicle bearing number Br. No. TS 15 ES 3666 and one Swift Car (AP 36 AT 5925) were found at the toll gate from Medchal. On spotting cops checking other vehicles, the Creta car turned back and headed towards Medchal. Cops chased the car on the Outer Ring Road. "The driver of the Creta car stopped his vehicle and a man with a bag was found getting off, he ran towards ORR and jumped from the railing. The police chased him by foot. He was caught with a bag carrying Rs 40 Lakhs" Cops said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Balanagar PV Padmaja explained, " On the behest of Raghunandan Rao, his Personal assistant Rachamalla Santosh Goud and all the four accused persons attempted to transport cash. According to their plan, the money was meant to be handed over to a close relative of Raghunandan Rao at Siddipet for distribution in Dubbaka by election.

Inquiries revealed that Bhavani Srinivasa Babu, Bhavani Anjaneyulu, Pullayagari Suresh and Mohammad Maajid Hussain, all residents of Patancheru are followers of Raghunandan Rao, who is a BJP aspirant candidate for Dubbaka Assembly segment in coming by election.

It was also found that they were not carrying any receipts of withdrawals to prove that the money of Rs. 40 Lakhs is for a legitimate purpose. Further analysis of call details of the four persons proved that the money is meant for distribution in Dubbaka by election by the BJP candidate, Cops said.

Since the election model code of conduct is being enforced in neighbouring Siddipet District, carrying such a huge amount of cash reveals that it is meant to influence voters by BJP aspirant Raghunandan Rao, Padmaja informed.
