Hyderabad: A Head constable working with the Telangana police department and serving at Saifabad police station of Hyderabad, was tested positive for the Covid-19 . The 55 year old, head constable has no travel history, but was regular for prayers at city mosques. It is suspected that he could have contracted the virus while he visited for prayer one of these visits to a mosque. This is the second cop in the police department to have tested positive. Earlier, A Deputy Superintendent of police -Kothagudem in Bhadradri Kothagaudem district was tested positive. He along with his cook contracted the virus from his UK returned son, who jumped home quarantine and moved around.
The home constable who tested Corona Positive, lives in the police quarters at Punjagutta. Since the lockdown came into force, he has been posted at a check point at Telugu Talli flyover. Inquiries revealed that he frequently visited two mosques at Saifabad area and one at Punjagutta, close to his house. 'He was found to be unwell for the past few days, but continued attending duties. On Friday, as he was coughing severely, he went to NIMS hospital for check up and was advised to visit Gandhi hospital and get tested. His samples were collected on Saturday and the results showing positive came on Monday. He was shifted to Gandhi hospital' said an official.
It was also found that the cop has three sons, of whom two are married with children. While the family lives in the the same house. Further during the past week, the cop interacted with colleagues and other staff at police station.
While his family was shifted to a quarantine center, police department has started the process of identifying his colleagues who were in close contact with him during the last week. For now a few of them have been identified and will be sent to quarantine.
Further, police have also started tracing his whereabouts during the past week and the mosques he visited and the people with whom he interacted during these visits.
