Telangana : KCR fields Saidireddy in Huzurnagar by-election

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister and TRS supremo K Chandrasekhar Rao has finalised the candidature of Sanampudi Saidireddy for the by-poll. Saidireddy will contest as MLA candidate on TRS ticket in Huzurnagar Assembly constituency by-election. He had contested as the TRS candidate in the last elections and lost with a slight margin to TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy.

Following the notification issued by the Election Commission for the Huzurnagar by-poll, KCR held talks with ministers and other leaders from districts on Saturday and decided to field Saidireddy once again.

The ECI (Election Commission of India) has further said that the electoral rolls for the Huzurnagar Assembly constituency have been published. The qualifying date is January 1, 2019. The Election Commission will be using Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and VVPATs in the by-election at all polling stations in the constituency. Adequate numbers of EVMs and VVPATs have been made available, and all steps have been taken to ensure that polls are conducted smoothly.

The EC further informed that the Model Code of Conduct should come into force with an immediate effect in the Suryapet district, in which the whole or any part of the Assembly constituency going for a by-election.

The Huzurnagar Assembly constituency is set for by-election after sitting MLA Uttam Kumar Reddy won as MP from Nalgonda Lok Sabha constituency. Subsequently, Reddy resigned as MLA from Huzurnagar. TPCC is fielding Padmavathi Reddy, Uttam Kumar’s wife, for the by-election. On the other hand, Kasoju Shankaramma, mother of Telangana martyr Srikantha Chary, has requested all political parties to extend support to her in the Huzurnagar by-election.
