Sanitation workers rescue newborn girl found abandoned in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A newborn baby girl was found abandoned near the government maternity hospital at Koti in Hyderabad on 7 September.

GHMC sanitation workers who were clearing garbage in the Esamia Bazar area near the hospital heard the child's cries and rescued her. They informed the police and later took the baby to the maternity hospital for treatment. The baby was healthy and was shifted to the government-run Shishu Vihar in Yousufguda.

Meanwhile, one of the sanitation workers who rescued the child wanted to adopt the child. She said that after nine years of marriage, she still had no children. The authorities, however, asked her to approach the department concerned and follow the adoption procedures.

The Sultan Bazar police have registered a case under Section 317 of the IPC and started an investigation. They are analysing CCTV footage from the hospital and surrounding areas. The police suspect that the child could be a result of an extra-marital affair or the parents probably did not want a girl child.

A few days ago, a man tried to kill his newborn twin daughters in Mahabubnagar district after his wife gave birth to girls a second time.
