SBI shuts Puranpool branch after customer dies of COVID19

Hyderabad: State Bank of India’s Puranapool branch, was closed for operations after a customer died of suspected COVID-19. Inquiries revealed the employees have been advised to go for home quarantine.

This is the first such incident reported due to COVID-19 in the city. Located in Dhoolpet area in the city, the bank has a huge customer base in the area.

Many elderly persons including women came to the bank to withdraw pension amounts on Monday. Monday being the first day of the week, there was relatively more customer flow at the bank. People were waiting even before the duty hours. But they had to leave after they were informed about the closure.

Police officials told NewsMeter that the bank was shut on Monday. Though the closure is expected to be extended for a few more days, there is no communication from the bank so far.

In a different case, A 54-year-old man working for State Bank of India in Hyderabad died of Covid-19 on May 18th. The man, who was undergoing treatment at Gandhi Hospital, breathed his last in the morning hours. He was working as a messenger at the State Bank Of India, Head Office, located in Koti. His death, takes the toll to 35 in the state.
