Hyderabad: Popular senior actress Geetanjali breathed her last at Apollo Hospital in Hyderabad in the wee hours of today, after suffering a major heart attack. The veteran artist was rushed to the hospital after she reported chest pain. She died while undergoing treatment in the hospital.
Geetanjali is well known for her subtle roles in various languages — Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, and Telugu. In her career, which spanned over six decades, the actress has acted in over 500 movies across multiple languages. Geetanjali debut with the legendary actor Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao in Seetharama Kalyanam in 1961 earned her a good name in the industry. Geetanjali played pivotal roles in iconic Telugu movies such as Maryada Ramanna, Letha Manasulu, and Murali Krishna. The films pushed her to legendary status. Gudachari 116, Sambarala Rambabu, Dr Chakravarthy, Bobbili Yuddham, Devatha are some of her other noted projects in tollywood. Geetanjali married her co-star Ramakrishna after which she took a brief break. However, she returned to the industry, performing various significant roles as a character artist.
Recently, Geetanjali gave her iconic performance as a senior character in films, creating a significant impact on the audience. Actress Geetanjali had a lengthy, vital role in Pellayina Kothalo starring Jagapathi Babu and Priyamani. Her last Telugu movie was Tamannaah Bhatia’s That is Mahalakshmi, which is yet to be released.
