Shahid and father Pankaj Kapoor to reunite on screen for Jersey remake after four years

Hyderabad: Actor Shahid Kapoor is very busy prepping for the Hindi remake of Telugu hit Jersey. The actor recently shared a video of him from the ground striking a six.

For the film, Shahid is teaming up with his father, Pankaj Kapoor. The father and son duo were last seen working together in Vikas Bahl’s Shaandaar and once again, they are all set to work together. Gowtam Tinnanuri, of the original, will direct the remake as well. Reportedly, the film will have the same title in Hindi.

Trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle to share the news. He also announced that Mrunal Thakur of Love Sonia and Super 30 fame would be playing the leading lady in the film.

He wrote, “#Confirmed: Father - son on big screen again... #PankajKapur to play mentor to #ShahidKapoor in #Jersey... Costars #MrunalThakur... Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also helmed the original #Telugu version... 28 Aug 2020 release (sic).”

The original version has Satyaraj playing a mentor and coach to Nani. Pankaj will be seen reprising the same role. After a gap of four long years, the duo is working together, and fans are super excited.

Jersey revolves around a father named Arjun (Nani), a talented but failed cricketer, who decides to return to the game in his late thirties. He is fuelled by his desire to represent the Indian team and to fulfil his son’s wish for an Indian jersey as a gift. How he makes it big, despite limited by his age forms the essence of the story.

The original Telugu version received overwhelming response from the audience as well as critics. The Hindi remake is slated to release on August 28, next year.
