Show-cause notice to Dundigal municipality official for demanding bribe

Hyderabad: The Medchal-Malkajgiri district collector, on 3 July, issued a show-cause notice to Dundigal municipality vice-chairperson, D. Padma Rao, for demanding bribe from contractors for permission to work during the lockdown.

In the notice, the collector, Vasam Venkateswarlu, said that he had received an audio clipping where Mr. Rao can be clearly heard demanding Rs.2 lakh from a contractor and Rs. 30,000 from another for permission to work during the COVID-19 lockdown.

“Rao was collecting bribe from contractors for undue favours and was not performing his legitimate duties,” the collector said. He also asked why disciplinary action should not be initiated against Mr. Rao under Section 66 of the Telangana Municipalities Act 2019.

Mr. Venkateswarlu said Mr. Rao's explanation should reach him within 24 hours otherwise it would be construed that there was no explanation and further action would be initiated as per the Municipalities Act.
