Siddipet Fiasco: Police arrest five BJP activists, recover Rs 27k cash

Hyderabad: Siddipet police have arrested five persons for snatching Rs 12.80 lakh cash that was seized by the cops from the residence of BJP Dubbaka candidate M Raghunandhan Rao’s relative.

Of Rs 12.80 lakh stolen cash, police have recovered Rs 27,500 so far. Twenty-five accused are still absconding. Siddipet police had booked 30 people under various sections of the Indian Penal Code for stealing cash from the cops.

Siddipet district witnessed a political drama on October 26 following the searches.

Acting on intelligence inputs, district police accompanied by the executive magistrate carried out searches at three locations in Siddipet on Monday.

Police recovered Rs. 18.67 lakh unaccounted cash from the house of S. Anjan Rao located at the Lecturer’s Colony.

The man happens to be a distant relative of BJP candidate M. Raghunandan Rao. Emotions ran high when BJP supporters snatched Rs. 12. 80 lakh cash from the police soon after the searches were conducted. BJP blamed cops for planting the money to defame Rao who is giving tough fight to TRS candidate in the Dubbaka by-polls.

Later Siddipet cops arrested five accused, while 25 others are on the run. They arrested persons were identified as Ragula Vinith,23, Y Suresh, 28, Govindagiri Sudha Reddy, 40, Gudem Amarender Reddy, 24, and Ramaran Vamsi, 20.

Hunt has been launched to nab Akula Naresh of Chellapur, Gundla Janardhan of Siddipet, Doodi Srikanth, Thunga Kanakaiah and Sanjeeva Reddy.

“We have identified the accused from the video taken during searches. Four special teams were formed to investigate the matter. A massive search operation was launched. On the morning of October 28, we arrested one of the accused Y Suresh at Gajwel. He led us to others,” said a police officer.

The five accused were produced before the district court and sent to judicial remand.
