Special officer to Telangana minister among 237 Covid-19 cases

Hyderabad: A special officer to Telangana minister has been tested positive for Covid-19. He is one among the 237 new COVID-19 cases reported on June 14. As a precautionary measure, all officers in minister's office will be undergoing Covid-19 test. According to the daily health bulletin released by Telangana health department, with this, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has reached 4,974, out of which 4,525 are local cases, while 449 patients are migrants, deportees or foreign returnees.

Further, Telangana reported three new deaths on Sunday, taking the death toll in the state to 185. Meanwhile the number of active cases in the state has reached 2,412.

The state has discharged 2,377 COVID-19 cases, as of June 14, discharging 25 people on Sunday. However, on the other hand, the number of medicos getting infected with COVID-19 in the state has been alarming. On June 12, the government had announced that two postgraduates (PGs) at the surgery department, two PGs at plastic surgery super-specialty department, one intern, and one BDS intern were tested COVID positive in Osmania Medical College(OMC).

As on Friday, five from Gandhi Hospital and 44 from NIMS were reported COVID positive. Those tested positive at NIMS include 21 doctors, and 23 paramedical and nursing staff. The total number of medicos infected now stands at 110.

The GHMC area continues to record the most number of positive cases with 195 new patients today. Medchal, Rangareddy, and Sangareddy reported 10, 8, and 5 new cases respectively. A funeral function in Zaheerabad in Sangareddy district had led to a drastic spike in the number of cases in the district, with 19 from the family testing positive on June 13.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao declared that 50,000 corona tests would be conducted in 30 Assembly segments of Hyderabad, Rangareddy, Vikarabad, Medchal, and Sangareddy Districts in next one week to ten days as a precautionary measure to contain COVID-19.
