Sri City shuts down plants till 31 March; pharma, essential commodity units exempt

Tirupati: After the Andhra Pradesh government announced a lockdown in the state till 31 March in view of the Coronavirus outbreak, the Sri City police and management jointly informed all industrial units in the premises to shut down their plants till the end of the month. However, pharmaceutical units and those manufacturing essential commodities are exempt from the lockdown. Companies that require a continuous process to run the plants have to obtain prior permission from the district collector.

In order to implement the government order, police have restricted all types of vehicles from entering the industrial park from Monday. Apart from the industry workers, a sizeable population also lives in Sri City. As the government exempted all essential services from the purview of the lockdown, such services will run as usual.

They include maintenance and supply of uninterrupted power with the support of Southern Power Distribution Company, the supply of treated drinking water, the supply of food, milk, and gas, sewerage collection and treatment, garbage collection, segregation, and disposal. Personnel deployed to render these services will have to undergo thorough screening before entering the Industrial Park, the communique stated.
