Srikakulam sub-treasury officer caught red-handed taking bribe, arrested

Srikakulam: A sub-treasury officer in Srikakulam was caught red-handed on 13 July taking a bribe of Rs. 10,000 from a retired school headmaster for clearing his pending bills. Sleuths of the Anti-corruption Bureau (ACB), led by deputy superintendent of police B.R Murthy, laid a trap and caught the official accepting the bribe at his home.

K. Jammayya is a retired headmaster of MPP school in Peddalogidi village under the Pathapatnam Mandal in Srikakulam. He lodged a complaint with the ACB against Chelikani Suresh, the sub-treasury officer of Pathapatnam in the district. Mr. Jammayya alleged that the treasury official had demanded Rs. 20,000 for clearing his leave bills. Initially, he had paid Rs. 10,000 but the official demanded more.

The ACB sleuths arrested the sub-treasury officer on Monday. The chemical tests of his hands and the inner linings of his left shirt pocket yielded positive results. The tainted money was also recovered and relevant records were seized.

Chelikani Suresh was arrested and produced before the court of the special judge for ACB cases in Vizag. He was sent to judicial remand.
