Hyderabad: An unknown person illegally entered the Osmania University (OU) girls hostel washrooms and threatened a girl on Thursday. The incident took place around 3:30 am when a girl had gone to the washroom around 3 am. The unknown person who was in the washroom, locked the girl in the toilet fearing that she may notice him.

Later, he pulled her outside from the washroom and showing her a knife threatened to kill her if she shouted.

When the stranger tried to squeeze the neck of the girl, she started shouting. Hearing her shouts, other roommates came to her rescue but, the stranger threatened them not to come near. He took the girl’s cell phone and ran.

OU public relations officer (PRO) E. Sujatha speaking to Newsmeter said “We assume he entered the hostel intending to steal cell phones. No one was harmed in the incident.”
Sujatha further said, “Media reports saying that the stranger molested the girl are not true.”

Police reached the hostel and with the help of the dog squad and Clues team found a broken cell phone at the back of the hostel compound wall.

OU girl hostel students said, “The hostel is equipped with only one CCTV camera. More cameras should be installed covering all the perimeters of the hostel.”

Sujatha said, “The previous batches had asked the management not to install CCTV cameras at the back of the hostel as the girls would be dressed informally. However, after this incident, the management has decided to install CCTV cameras at the back.”
