SUV hits bike in Hyderabad; couple dead, their three-year-old niece critical

Hyderabad: A couple, who were on their way home for Dussehra celebrations, died in an accident near the Telangana State Police Academy at Himayat Sagar on Sunday afternoon. Their three-year-old niece, who was with them, sustained severe injuries. The mishap occurred when a speeding SUV hit their bike, said police. Though reports claimed that the person who was driving the SUV was driving under the influence, police confirmed that it was not the case.

Lingamolla Chennaiah (38) and his wife Padmamma (32) died on the spot, while their niece Mounika sustained severe injuries and her condition is said to be critical. Aziz, who was driving the SUV, also suffered injuries and is admitted in a hospital. There were three other passengers in the car, and they escaped unhurt. The car passengers belong to Yakutpura in the Old City and were going to attend a family get together at a resort in Moinabad.

According to police, the victims belong to Mahabubnagar district and are residing at Moinabad on the city outskirts for livelihood. On Sunday, they were going to their native place to celebrate Dussehra. Midway, when they reached the ORR Service Road near the police academy junction, the SUV rammed into their bike from the opposite side.

The SUV's high speed threw the couple off their bike, and they landed in a bush on the roadside. The car also toppled multiple times. Alerted by passers-by, Rajendranagar police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a hospital. Inquiries revealed that over speeding of the SUV led to the accident.
