Sye Raa: Ram Charan missed sharing screen space with father

Hyderabad: The epic magnum opus, Sye Raa is all set to take audiences on a nostalgic ride on Gandhi Jayanthi, Oct 2. Megastar Chiranjeevi is filled with a sense of excitement and nervousness ahead of the release. The 64-year-old star admits that amidst all the mixed feelings he had been going through, the movie unit is confident that the movie would do tremendously well at the box office.

Divulging some insights about the movie, Chiranjeevi said, during the making of the movie, it was decided that his son Ram Charan would be given a special character named Share Khan in the movie. The character appears just before the interval when Sye Raa faces Share Khan. The character says 'Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, the country is in dire need of a warrior like you' and Share Khan immediately grabs the sword from Sye Raa and kills himself.

Initially, the makers planned to rope in Bollywood star Salman Khan or Sanjay Dutt. Later, they decided to cast Ram Charan in the special role instead. Again, diverse opinion arose within the film unit that if Ram Charam kills himself, it may fuel an anti-sentiment among fans. And subsequently, they had to drop the idea of casting Ram Charan. It was later decided that the whole sequence and the character of Share Khan be ousted from the script, considering the run time of Sye Raa. In a way, producer of the movie, Ram Charan had missed sharing screen space with his father, Chiranjeevi.

Directed by Surender Reddy, the movie depicts the real-life story of freedom fighter Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy who revolted against the British empire before the Sepoy Mutiny 1857.
