T Cong man files complaint against Nagababu for Godse a patriot comment

Hyderabad: Tollywood actor Konidela Nagababu is in trouble over his tweet remembering Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse as a patriot on the latter’s birth anniversary.

The general secretary of Telangana Congress, Kotuir Manavata Roy, lodged a complaint at the Osmania University police station seeking police action against Nagababu, who is megastar Chiranjeevi's brother, for insulting Gandhi.

Mr Roy said that Nagababu had insulted the entire nation by calling Godse a "true patriot" and alleging that Gandhi's assassination was debatable. He urged the police to take necessary action against the actor for insulting the father of the nation and suspend his Twitter account without any further delay.

The police have started an inquiry following his complaint.

On 19 May, Nagababu had tweeted, “Today is Nathuram Godse’s birthday. He was a true patriot. Godse killing Gandhi is debatable, but his side of the argument was not presented in any media. Media worked for the government (today, too, it is the same). Though Godse knew he would become a criminal by killing Gandhi, he did what he wanted. But his love for the nation cannot be questioned. He is a true patriot. I thought of remembering him once. Poor Nathuram Godse. May his soul rest in peace.” He had also shared a link to a ten-minute YouTube video explaining Godse's last words.

After his tweet triggered a controversy, Nagababu tweeted again asking people to understand him. “I request everyone to please understand me. In the tweet about Nathuram, I did not support the offense he committed. I had only stated that his version also should be made known to the public. I have the highest respect for Mahatma Gandhi. In fact, I respect him more than the people who criticise me,” he tweeted.
