T Congress demands white paper on TS govts COVID-19 spending

Hyderabad: The treasurer of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC), Gudur Narayana Reddy, on 10 September, demanded the state government issue a white paper providing details of the funds spent on the fight against COVID-19.

Mr. Reddy said the state should provide details of funds received under the Chief Minister's Relief Fund (CMRF) and disclose how it was spent to fight the pandemic. “KCR's negligence is proving costly for Telangana. He must realise that people's lives are more precious than his false ego. The Chief Minister must wake up from his slumber and take corrective measures to control the situation,” he said in a statement.

He also alleged that KCR was not giving any clear answers regarding the measures taken by the government to fight the pandemic. “Despite COVID-19 cases crossing the 1.5-lakh mark and death toll touching almost 1,000, KCR is making vague statements. Instead of giving a clear status on what measures were taken to combat COVID-19 and how his government plans to prevent further damage, KCR is making vague statements,” he said.

On the Chief Minister's claims that nearly Rs. 4,500 crore has been earmarked to deal with the COVID-19 situation in the state, the Congress leader remarked, “KCR is giving the impression that he is spending from his own pocket and that Telangana is his 'jagir' (personal fiefdom). Why is he reluctant to include COVID-19 treatment in the Aarogyasri scheme? Thousands of families have sold their assets and incurred huge debts to bear the cost of treatment in private hospitals.”

The state should include COVID-19 treatment in the Aarogyasri scheme and reimburse the amount poor people have already spent for treatment in private hospitals, he added.
