TDP’s Diwakar Reddy expresses interest to be BJP’s Working President

Amaravati: Former MP and TDP politician JC Diwakar Reddy has been exerting all his efforts to join Bharatiya Janata Party. The latter’s recent meeting with BJP leader Satya, who was once a follower of Venkaiah Naidu, has been suggesting that the TDP senior leader would be shortly joining BJP.

However, this is the fifth time that Diwakar Reddy has made efforts to join BJP after the national party’s victory in the 2019 general elections. Mr Reddy was in the news recently for his “bootlicking” remarks against police. He also made an appearance in Anantapuram police station on Saturday. However, the police noted that the politician came on his own volition and not because of anyone’s insistence. The former MP had warned the police that he would hire the “bootlicking police after TDP comes into power in 2024”. He had allegedly made these remarks in the presence of the former Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

Irked with the hunting of YSRCP top leaders, JC Diwakar Reddy lost temper several times in the past. He had expressed his unrest before Chandrababu Naidu, saying that TDP is not in a position to counter YSRCP’s activities in Rayalaseema, particularly in Anantapuram district. Diwakar Reddy openly expressed his dismay several times during party meetings.

Suffocated with the YSRCP’s “victimising” politics, Diwakar Reddy had hinted Naidu many times that TDP needs strengthening in the district. However, Mr Reddy had his differences with district TDP leaders, and couldn’t cope with them. These factors have prompted him to look at BJP as an alternative, insisting for a Working President position in the party.

However, BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Sujana Chowdary, who is close to the headquarters, has a different strategy for Andhra Pradesh. He had placed the same before the party’s seniors. Sujana has suggested that three regions of AP — Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra and North Andhra — should be given equal importance and the party needs to identify three Working Presidents from different communities. If such is the case, another Rajya Sabha member CM Ramesh is his choice for Rayalaseema. Hence, JC Diwakar Reddy may not get his anticipated spot in AP BJP, sources said.

M Venkata Ramana (China Babu) from Rajahmundry and MLC Madhav are Sujana Chowdary’s possible choices as Working Presidents. Learning about it, Diwakar Reddy had approached Satya Kumar who has strong RSS routes. Through Kumar, Reddy conveyed the message that his candidature could be considered for the position of party Working President from Rayalaseema to BJP headquarters. He is hopeful that his bid would be taken into consideration this time, sources said.
