Teacher, cop die after car skids off bridge into Manair river

Hyderabad: In freak mishap, a car plunged into the Manair river from a bridge at Karimnagar on Sunday. The incident left two persons dead and injured a woman travelling in the car. A police constable from the traffic wing of Karimnagar commissionerate, who was managing traffic on the bridge, also accidentally fell into the river and sustained injuries. Later, he was declared brought dead by hospital authorities.
According to sources, Gaddi Srinivas a government school teacher from Karimnagar town along with his wife, Sunitha, were heading to the famed Komuravelli Mallanna temple near Siddipet. While driving over the bridge at Alugunoor on the city outskirts, Srinivas in an attempt to avoid crashing into a truck that was ahead, lost control and the vehicle veered off towards the left, hit the railing of the bridge and plunged into the river from around 50 feet height.
Srinivas died on the spot, while his wife sustained injuries. As vehicles lined up and crowds gathered on the bridge, police personnel were rushed to clear vehicular movement.
Traffic constable Chandrashekar Goud, who was managing traffic, also accidentally fell into the river and sustained injuries. However, after bring rushed to the hospital, he was declared brought dead.
Police deployed cranes to pull out the car.
