Telangana police arrest two for their alleged connection with the Maoist party

Hyderabad: Continuing their crackdown on Maoist organisations, Telangana police arrested Telangana Praja Front (TPF) Secretary Menchu Ramesh and Chaitanya Mahila Sangham State committee General Secretary Chukka Shilpa on December 17. Jogulamba Gadwal police arrested them after conducting searches at their residences. Police had earlier arrested TPF Vice President Nalamasa Krishna, along with Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika State president Maddileti Bandari in October 2019.

On Tuesday morning, Jogulamba Gadwal police conducted searches at Ramesh and Shilpa’s residences located at Nacharam in Hyderabad and Keesara on the city outskirts. Sleuths from other wings of Telangana police had accompanied Jogulamba Gadwal officers.

Jogulamba Gadwal Superintendent of Police Apoorva Rao stated that they seized outlawed Maoist ideology literature and electronic data containing revolutionary ideology from their possession. They are affiliated to the banned CPI Maoist party, and they are covertly working as sympathisers-cum-couriers of the Maoist party.

The SP added that according to the directions of the higher cadre, the duo attracts innocent youth to the banned organisation by injecting their revolutionary ideology into their minds. “They do so through secret activities across Telangana, recruiting youths to strengthen the party and to carry out their destructive activities to destabilise democratically elected governments. They want to establish their own rule through an armed struggle as per their strategy and ideology,” Apoorva Rao said.

The officers will produce them before a court, and they will be sent to judicial remand. Meanwhile, Maoist frontal organisations condemned the arrests, terming them as government’s autocratic move to crush public opinions and voices of dissent.
