Telangana reports over 1,000 new COVID-19 cases in a single day

Hyderabad: With 1,087 citizens testing positive for COVID-19 on June 27, Telangana witnessed its highest single-day spike in the number of COVID-19 patients in the state. The surge in COVID-19 patients today has taken the total tally to 13,436 cases reported.

Six people succumbed to the disease on Saturday, taking the total death toll in the state to 243 deaths.

The GHMC area continued to witness the highest number of COVID-19 cases with 888 new cases being reported from the district. Rangareddy district reported 74 new COVID-19 cases, while Medchal and Nalgonda saw 37 and 35 new cases each.

Meanwhile, Telangana has tested 79,231 samples in total, out of which 3,923 samples were tested today. The number of active COVID-19 cases in the state now stands at 8,265.

It is pertinent to note that the number of COVID-19 cases in the state has been surging, ever since the Telangana began to implement mass testing. Following the measures announced by Telangana chief minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the state, authorities have ramped up the number of COVID-19 tests conducted, with daily testing numbers made public in the health bulletin.

In addition to this, the Telangana state government has raised a flag against private labs' discrepancies in COVID-19 results. "Certain labs are not following the standard operating procedures. There have been discrepancies in data pertaining to the number of tests conducted., positives reported and portal updation...certaion labs are reporting close to 70 percent positivity rate which clearly denotes huge errors in the testing methodology," the bulletin said.
