Telangana sets record, runs 43 Shramik special trains in 12 hours

Hyderabad: The South Central Railway (SCR) has set a record by running 43 Shramik special trains from Telangana in 12 hours.

From 4 p.m on 23 May till the early morning hours of 24 May trains from various railway stations in Telangana, like Hyderabad, Secunderabad, Kacheguda, Ghatkesar, Ligampalli, Mahabubnagar, and Kazipet, helped transport stranded migrant workers. Ten trains went to Bihar, six to Jharkhand, eight to Uttar Pradesh, 12 to Odisha, and four to other states, said a statement released by the SCR.

Telangana also transported the maximum number of passengers, 1.5 lakh, while Andhra Pradesh sent helped 66,000 passengers. Around 128 trains operated from Telangana while 53 ran from Andhra Pradesh. Maharashtra, which is also part of the SCR, transported 20,000 passengers in 15 trains.

The SCR has transported around 2,41,768 migrant laborers since 1 May. In the first 16 days they transported one lakh passengers and another one lakh in seven days, the officials said. The railway police followed all COVID-19 protocols and all stations were also sanitised, they added.
