Telangana stands 9th in number of tests per day per million population

Hyderabad: According to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Telangana stands at 9th position in tests per day per million population. Telangana is conducting 637 tests per day per million. World Health Organisation advised the countries to conduct at least 140 tests per day per million population. Overall India is conducting 540 tests per day per million.

While Andhra Pradesh comes second in the list with 1,391 tests per day per million population, Goa tops the list with 1,584 tests per day per million population. Delhi is conducting 950 tests per day per million population. There are 11 states which are conducting more tests than the national average.



The WHO underlined the need for comprehensive surveillance and testing of the suspect cases. While defining comprehensive, WHO says if you are testing 140 people per day per million population that is indicative of comprehensive.

However, both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are below the national average of positivity rate. While India’s positivity rate is 8.57 per cent, Telangana’s positivity rate is 9.2 per cent and Andhra Pradesh positive rate is 11.4 per cent. Rajasthan has the highest positivity rate of 4.18 per cent followed by Uttar Pradesh at 4.59 per cent.

In the last 10 days, Telangana has ramped up testing. They are testing more than 50,000 samples per day. Andhra Pradesh has tested 36,03,345 samples till date.

On Sunday, India reported the highest single-day spike of 78,761 Covid-19 cases. The Covid-19 tally in the country stands at 35,42,734.

Telangana reported 2,924 new Covid cases on Saturday taking the overall tally to 1,23,090 in the state.

Ten new deaths were reported on August 29 taking the death toll to 818. The fatality rate in the state is 0.66 per cent which is less than the national average of 1.79 per cent.
